The only one that comes out

Six of the seven shelves in this hub are places to put something. This one is a place to get at something.

That is a bigger practical difference than the price suggests. A device on a fixed tray inside a wall cabinet is reached by leaning into the cabinet with a torch. The same device on a pull-out tray comes to the front, gets looked at, and goes back.

The first bullet names the case exactly: components that cannot be rack-mounted, and easier access. Anything with a screen, a button, a card slot or a label worth reading belongs on a tray that slides.

Five kilograms, and why

Then the number, and it is a third of the 15 kg published by a fixed tray on the same shelf.

A fixed shelf puts its load straight into the rails. A sliding one puts it through runners, and when the tray is extended the load hangs outside the cabinet on the far end of those runners, working them as a lever. The rating has to survive that position, not the parked one.

So 5 kg is not a weaker shelf, it is the price of the mechanism. What it rules out is most of what people put on shelves — a small NAS, an uninterruptible power supply, anything with a transformer in it.

The awkward part is that the second bullet describes the tray as able to withstand high loads in the sentence immediately before capping it at 5 kg. Both statements are on the page; only one of them is a number.

A hundred and fifty-five millimetres of adjustment

The third bullet gives the rail spacing as adjustable from 350 mm to 505 mm, and the fourth gives the resulting fit as cabinets from 450 mm to 600 mm deep.

That is a slide assembly doing what a fixed tray cannot: suiting several cabinet depths from one part number. For anyone running more than one cabinet, or replacing a cabinet later, it means the shelf survives the change.

What it also means is that this is a shelf for deep cabinets only. Three of the seven cabinets in this hub are shallower than 450 mm, and none of those three will take it.

Perforated, for the thing standing on it

The second bullet gives the perforation as passive cooling.

On a sliding tray that matters slightly more than on a fixed one, because the objects that go on sliding trays are the ones being interacted with — a drive enclosure, a console, something that is switched on when it is pulled out and warm when it is pushed back.

Weigh the object first, because 5 kg is the figure that decides this purchase and nothing else on the page changes it. Check the cabinet is at least 450 mm deep. And ask what fixings are needed, since none are listed and a slide assembly usually wants more of them than a plain tray does.
