The widest cable window here, and a temperature range with it
DIGITUS Cat 6A field-terminated plug, AWG 27/7 to 22/1, cable 5.0-9.0 mm, pack of 10
The plug here with the widest published sheath window, 5.0 to 9.0 mm, terminated without tools onto solid or stranded conductors alike — and the only one on this shelf to publish an operating temperature range.
Specifications
- Category rating
- Cat 6A — stated in the title and the first bullet, with transmission to 10 Gigabit per second and suitability for PoE applications up to PoE+, named as IEEE802.3at
- Solid or stranded compatibility
- Both — stated in the second bullet as a toolless termination for solid and stranded conductors, colour-coded to EIA/TIA 568 A and B. The gauge notation carries the same answer: the suffix on 27/7 is a stranded bundle and the suffix on 22/1 a single core
- Shielded or unshielded
- Shielded — stated in the fifth bullet, which names a nickel-plated zinc die-cast metal housing with strain relief and cable fixing providing a 360-degree screen
- Accepted conductor diameter
- AWG 27/7 to 22/1 — stated in the second bullet. The window covers stranded and solid at once because the figure after each stroke is the conductor count. No millimetre figure is given for the conductor itself
- Accepted cable diameter
- 5.0 to 9.0 mm — stated in the fourth bullet as the sheath diameters the plug will take. It is the widest of the three outside-diameter windows published on this shelf
- Load bar presence
- Not published on the listing — the second bullet describes a toolless termination with the conductors laid to a printed colour order, and names no separate lacing insert
- Pass-through or standard body
- Neither — the first and third bullets call it a field-terminated plug, assembled without tools for repair, maintenance or joining two installation cables. Nothing describes a crimp, and nothing describes conductors leaving the front
- Pack quantity
- Ten — stated in the title
- Amazon reference
- B0CX23DJ6R (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
- EAN
- 4016032495116
On the listing
A shielded Cat 6A field-termination plug in a nickel-plated zinc die-cast housing, sold ten to a packet, reaching transmission rates of up to 10 Gigabit per second and suitable for PoE applications up to PoE+ under IEEE802.3at. Termination is toolless, for solid and stranded conductors from AWG 27/7 to 22/1, colour-coded to EIA/TIA 568 A and B, and offered for making up patch cable in the field. The third bullet names the intended jobs: temporary installation on installation cable for repair and maintenance, or a durable joint between two installation cables. The fourth gives an operating range of −40 °C to +80 °C and a cable diameter window of 5.0 to 9.0 mm. The fifth credits the housing, strain relief and cable fixing with a 360-degree screen.
One notation, two answers
AWG 27/7 to 22/1 is the most economical compatibility statement on this shelf. The gauge is on the left of each stroke and the conductor count on the right, so the window says in seven characters that stranded is accepted at the thin end, solid at the thick end, and everything between.
Four listings here state the construction in words. This one states it in words as well and then backs it with a notation that could not be misread. On a shelf where three plugs never mention the question at all, that is the difference between a specification and a slogan.
Five to nine millimetres, and what that window is for
The sheath is the dimension most of this shelf forgets, and this plug publishes the widest range of the three that remember. Five millimetres at the bottom takes thin unscreened cord; nine at the top takes a fat screened installation run with a heavy jacket.
The reason is in the third bullet. This plug exists to go onto cable that already runs through a wall — a repair, a maintenance job, a joint between two lengths — and the cable in that wall is whatever was specified by somebody else, years ago. A window that narrow would defeat the purpose.
There is no crimp here and no trimming blade. The conductors are laid into a colour order printed to both wiring standards and the plug is closed onto them, in the same way the keystone modules in the neighbouring hub are terminated. That removes the tool purchase entirely, and it makes the job possible in the place where the job actually is — up a ladder, behind a cabinet, at the end of a cable that will not reach a bench.
What it costs is money per end. Ten plugs at this price is well above what a hundred crimp plugs cost, and that is the trade: the tool disappears from the bill and the plug carries the expense instead.
A temperature range, alone on the shelf
The fourth bullet gives an operating range of −40 °C to +80 °C, and nothing else in this hub publishes one. It is not a figure a household link normally has to think about, and it is exactly the figure that matters for a run into an unheated loft, a garage or an outbuilding, where the two ends of the year are further apart than a living room ever gets.
Before ordering
Check the cable diameter against 5.0 to 9.0 mm and the conductors against AWG 27/7 to 22/1, and note that both constructions are inside the window — this is the plug on the shelf that does not require you to know which one you have. Then weigh the price per end against a crimp plug and a tool, since ten of these cost what a hundred of something else does.
