AWG 22 to 25, solid, and what that excludes
One line on this packet decides whether it is the right plug, and the listing prints it. Solid conductor, AWG 22 to 25. That is a gauge window and a construction together, which is more than most of this shelf manages, and it is exactly the pair of facts a cable has to be matched against.
What follows from it is an exclusion the page does not spell out but the specification does. Stranded patch cable is out — its conductors are bundles, and a contact set for a single core is not the right shape for them. So is anything outside the window at either end. An installation run at AWG23 sits comfortably inside; a thin flexible cord does not.
Most of this shelf is crimped, which means a tool, which means a purchase that costs more than the plugs. This one closes onto an insulation-displacement strip by hand: the conductors are laid in, the body is snapped shut, and the strip cuts through the insulation as it goes.
That is the same principle a keystone module uses, brought forward to the end of a lead. It suits a repair at the point where a cable emerges from a wall, or a plug fitted to a run that was never terminated. It does not suit making up twenty leads, where a ratcheting tool and a bag of crimp plugs is faster and cheaper per end.
The diameter that is not on the packet
A gauge window says what the eight conductors may be. It says nothing about the sheath they arrive in, and the body has to close around that. This listing gives no outside diameter at all, which leaves one of the two dimensions that decide fit unpublished — and it is the one that varies most between a thin Cat 5e cord and a fat screened Cat 7 run.
Three plugs on this shelf do publish an outside diameter. This is not one of them, and the strain-relief boot named in the fifth bullet is a mechanical answer to a dimensional question.
Before ordering
Read the cable first. The gauge has to be inside AWG 22 to 25 and the conductors have to be solid, and both of those are printed on a cable listing or a drum, never visible in a photograph. Then check the sheath diameter yourself with a caliper if the cable does not publish one, because this packet does not, and a body that will not close is a plug wasted.
