The best cable trunking for 2026

Trunking is the plastic channel that turns a handful of cables along a skirting board into one tidy line, and its whole specification is a cross-section. The internal width and height in millimeters decide how many cables fit, and the honest rule is to leave room rather than fill it: a channel packed to the lid cannot be added to and is hard to close again. Makers publish external dimensions on some listings and internal on others — one listing here publishes both and says which is which, and the rest leave you to guess — and the two differ by the wall thickness, which is a real difference on the smaller sizes. Several of the American listings answer the question a different way, by naming the cables that fit: three 4.5 mm (0.18 in) cords, two HDMI leads, one Cat5. The second decision is how it stays up. Self-adhesive trunking carries a tape on the back and depends entirely on the surface — clean, smooth and painted holds it, textured wallpaper does not — while screw-fixed trunking has a base drilled to the wall and a lid clipped over it, and it is the only kind worth using for a permanent run or a heavy bundle. Some profiles hinge open along their length instead of taking a separate lid. Then the accessories, which are what makes a run look finished rather than improvised: internal and external corners, flat bends, T-pieces and end caps, sold either inside the pack or separately, and the listing says which. Material is normally self-extinguishing PVC and the color is white on most stock; two listings here name the standard that phrase stands for, UL94 V-0. Check the length per piece and how many pieces the pack holds, because a run is made of several.
