Rack units
One — stated in the title and in the fourth bullet, which puts 1 HE in brackets after the description of the fixing points
Mounting depth
300 mm — stated in the title as the installation depth, and in the first bullet as a requirement: the shelf suits 19-inch cabinets offering at least 300 mm of mounting depth
Cantilever or four-post support
Neither term is used, and the fourth bullet describes the arrangement plainly: a quick installation on the profile rails thanks to fixing points on the front face. A shelf carried at the front alone is what the cantilever entry in this table describes, and the listing does not use the word
Stated load rating
About 16 kg — stated in the fifth bullet alongside the dimensions and the weight. The word about is the maker’s own
Vented or solid surface
Not published on the listing — no perforation, no vent and no airflow claim appears in any of the five bullets. The third describes stable steel sheet with a scratch-resistant black powder coating
Sliding or fixed
Fixed — stated in the first bullet as a shelf for fixed installation, and confirmed by the fourth, which describes it bolted to the profile rails
Usable surface dimensions
Not published on the listing — the fifth bullet gives 483 × 300 × 44 mm as the width, depth and height of the shelf, which are outer dimensions. No separate figure for the flat surface appears
Fixings supplied
Cage nuts — named in the fifth bullet as the accessory. No screws and no washers are listed alongside them

  • Describes the fixing arrangement in plain words, which five of the seven shelves here never do
  • Publishes its own weight, 1.44 kg, as well as the load it carries
  • Nothing says whether the surface is perforated, and this is a cabinet part

Best for: A 19-inch cabinet of at least 300 mm depth holding a modest, awkward object that needs a stable platform and nothing more.

On the listing

A shelf for fixed installation in 19-inch network cabinets offering at least 300 mm of mounting depth, one rack unit high, described as allowing tidy accommodation of network components that cannot be rack-mounted themselves; made from stable steel sheet with a scratch-resistant black powder coating; installed quickly on the profile rails thanks to fixing points on the front face; and given dimensions of 483 × 300 × 44 mm in width, depth and height, a weight of 1.44 kg, a load of about 16 kg and cage nuts as the accessory.

Fixing points on the front face

Five of the seven shelves in this hub leave the buyer guessing how they are held up. This one describes it in a single clause.

The fourth bullet: a quick installation on the profile rails thanks to fixing points on the front face, one rack unit.

That is the cantilever arrangement without the word. Everything standing on the tray is carried by two rails at one end, and the further back a load sits, the harder it works the flanges. It is why the figure in the next bullet is about 16 kg, and why the four-post shelf on this shelf can state 110 kg without being made of anything special.

Describing the mechanism in plain language is worth more than the term would have been. The term is jargon; the sentence tells you where the metal is bolted.

Three hundred millimetres, stated as a requirement

The first bullet does not say the shelf is 300 mm deep and leave it there. It says the shelf suits 19-inch cabinets with at least 300 mm of mounting depth.

That is the right way round. A shelf deeper than the cabinet does not go in at all, and the buyer holding a tape measure is measuring the cabinet, not the shelf. On the cabinets hub of this site the depths run from 180 mm to 450 mm, so this sentence rules out the shallowest of them at a glance.

Its own weight, printed

The fifth bullet gives 1.44 kg.

Almost nothing in this hub publishes what a part weighs, and it is a small, practical number. A 1.44 kg tray is a one-handed object: it can be held against the rails with one hand while the other starts a bolt, which is exactly the moment a rack shelf is fitted.

It also puts the 16 kg load in proportion. The shelf weighs a tenth of what it carries, which is a sensible ratio for a cantilever part and would be a worrying one for anything claiming much more.

The surface, undescribed

There is no perforation on this page, and no statement that the surface is solid either.

Four of the seven listings on this shelf name their perforation and say what it is for. This one describes the coating and the steel and never the tray. Under a device that vents downwards, or in a cabinet relying on convection, that is a real difference, and the page leaves it to be discovered on delivery.

The other omission is the usable surface: 483 × 300 mm are the outer dimensions, and the flat part inside the flanges is smaller by an unstated amount.

Before ordering

Check the cabinet offers at least 300 mm, because the listing is explicit that it must. Buy bolts and washers to go with the cage nuts. And if the equipment vents downwards, ask whether the tray is perforated — the page never says.
