The best network cabinets for 2026

A cabinet is bought on internal dimensions, and the one that catches people out is depth. The 19-inch mounting width is fixed by convention and the height in rack units of 44.45 mm each is printed on every listing, but the usable depth between the front and rear mounting rails is what decides whether a switch with a rear-facing power inlet lets its door close. Wall cabinets are shallow by design and a great deal of equipment simply does not fit them; floor cabinets are deep and occupy the footprint of a wardrobe. Read then the mounting rails: two posts or four, adjustable in depth or fixed, and whether the holes are square for cage nuts or threaded. Ventilation follows — a mesh or louvred door moves air on its own, a solid glass door looks tidier and does not, and roof cutouts for fans are published with their dimensions. Access counts for more than it seems inside a cupboard, and a removable side panel or a hinged wall frame turns an impossible cabling job into an ordinary one. The stated load rating is published as a static figure, and a cabinet filled with drives approaches it sooner than expected. Finally the entries: brush strips or knockouts top and bottom, an earth stud, and a lock. Flat-packed cabinets ship cheaply and are assembled on site; welded ones arrive built and take two people up a staircase. We compare rack units and mounting width, usable internal depth, wall or floor mounting, rail arrangement, door type and ventilation, stated load rating, cable entries and lock type.

The ones worth keeping in the drawer

  1. DIGITUS grey 10-inch six-unit wall network cabinet with a glass door

    DIGITUS 10-inch 6U wall cabinet, 330 × 312 × 300 mm, lockable glass door

The smallest cabinet in this hub and the only 10-inch one, sized for a flat or a small office where a full rack would be absurd, with an earthing bolt and cable entries top and bottom.

    Rack units
Six — stated in the title, alongside the outer dimensions of 330 × 312 × 300 mm in height, width and depth
    Mounting width
10-inch — stated in the title and in the first bullet, and given as 254 mm in the fifth, which lists the DIGITUS components available in that format: patch panels, LAN and PoE switches, socket strips, cable management and shelves
    Usable internal depth
Not published on the listing — the title gives an outer depth of 300 mm and no bullet gives a rail-to-rail figure. The fourth says the rails can be fitted in three different positions, which changes the usable depth without stating any of the three values
    Wall or floor mounting
Wall — the first bullet calls it a 10-inch wall enclosure for structured IT cabling, suited to a home or a small office environment
    Rail arrangement
Profile rails adjustable to three different positions — stated in the fourth bullet. The number of rails and whether they are square-hole or threaded is not published on the listing
    Door type
Lockable glass — stated in the second bullet, which gives visual inspection of a router, a NAS or a switch as the reason for the glazing and protection from unauthorised access as the reason for the lock
    Ventilation
Not published on the listing — no vents, no louvres and no fan aperture is named anywhere. The door is glass, which is the arrangement that moves the least air, and the third bullet describes the cable entries without mentioning airflow
    Stated load rating
Not published on the listing — no static load figure appears. The fourth bullet names a steel housing and an earthing bolt, and gives no weight the cabinet will carry
    Cable entries
In the floor and the roof — stated in the third bullet, which says power and network cable can be brought into the mini rack from below as well as from above
    Lock type
Not published on the listing — the door is described as lockable in the second bullet and no lock pattern, key type or barrel is named

    • The only 10-inch cabinet here, which is the format that suits a flat rather than a plant room
    • Rails adjustable to three depth positions inside a shallow enclosure
    • No usable internal depth published, on the cabinet where the margin is smallest

Best for: A flat or a small office where the whole network is a router, a switch and a 10-inch patch panel, and the cupboard has 300 mm to give.

  2. Extralink black 19-inch nine-unit network cabinet with a lockable door and a shelf

EXTRALINK 19-inch 9U cabinet, 400 mm deep, 340 mm of equipment depth stated, 60 kg load

The cabinet that answers the question its neighbours dodge: it publishes not just its own 400 mm depth but the 340 mm of equipment that will go inside it, and ships a shelf in the same box.

    Rack units
Nine — stated in the title, alongside a depth of 400 mm
    Mounting width
19-inch — stated in the title and repeated in the first and third bullets, which call it a 19-inch rack and a 19-inch network cabinet
    Usable internal depth
Given as an equipment depth rather than a rail measurement: the third bullet says the cabinet takes the commonest network devices up to a depth of 340 mm, naming switches, servers, patch panels and CCTV recorders. The cabinet itself is 400 mm deep, so the 60 mm difference is stated by implication rather than as a rail-to-rail figure
    Wall or floor mounting
Either — the fifth bullet says it can be hung on a wall or stood free, and calls that complete flexibility regardless of the size and layout of the room
    Rail arrangement
Not published on the listing — no number of rails, no depth adjustment and no hole pattern is named. The first bullet says the full mounting hardware is included and the assembly takes about fifteen minutes with no specialist knowledge
    Door type
Lockable, with a 180-degree opening stated in the title. The second bullet gives protection of the equipment as the reason for the lock. The door material is not published on the listing
    Ventilation
Ventilation slots — named in the fourth bullet together with cable entries, credited with optimal cooling of the equipment and a tidier cable arrangement. No fan aperture and no vent dimension is given
    Stated load rating
60 kg — stated in the title as the carrying capacity
    Cable entries
Named in the fourth bullet as cable feed-throughs alongside the ventilation slots, credited with an aesthetically pleasing cable arrangement. Their number, position and whether they carry brush strips is not published on the listing
    Lock type
Not published on the listing — the door is described as lockable in the second bullet and no lock pattern, key type or barrel is named

    • Publishes the equipment depth it accepts, 340 mm, which is the figure a buyer actually measures against
    • A shelf is included, so the router with no rack ears has somewhere to sit on day one
    • The rail arrangement is nowhere described, so nothing says whether the rear is supported

Best for: A nine-unit installation in a room where it might be wall-hung now and stood on the floor later, with equipment no deeper than 340 mm.

  3. STALFLEX grey 19-inch three-unit shallow network cabinet with a front door

STALFLEX 19-inch 3U cabinet, 180 mm depth, 90-degree door, space for a 120 mm fan

The shallowest cabinet in this hub at three rack units, sold for a recorder or a pair of patch panels, and the only one that names the size of fan its ventilation will accept.

    Rack units
Three — stated in the title, alongside 180 mm and the 19-inch width
    Mounting width
19-inch — stated in the title and in the first bullet, which calls it a 19-inch network cabinet
    Usable internal depth
Not published on the listing as such — the title and the first bullet both give 180 mm without saying whether that is the cabinet or the room inside it. The first bullet says the depth gives space for servers, DVR recorders or several patch panels at once, which reads as a claim about what fits and is written against the same 180 mm figure
    Wall or floor mounting
Not published on the listing — no bullet says whether the cabinet is hung, stood or either. The second describes powder-coated steel and a professional appearance in a server environment, and none of the five names a mounting method
    Rail arrangement
Mounting rails with cut-outs — the fourth bullet names cable feed-throughs and recesses in the mounting rails as its cable management. The number of rails, their depth adjustment and their hole pattern is not published on the listing
    Door type
A door opening through 90 degrees from top to bottom, stated in the third bullet as giving unrestricted access to all internal components. The door material is not published on the listing
    Ventilation
Side ventilation openings, with space for a 120 × 120 mm fan — stated in the fifth bullet, which is the only place on this shelf where a fan aperture is given a dimension
    Stated load rating
Not published on the listing — no static load figure appears. The second bullet names high-grade powder-coated steel and durability instead
    Cable entries
Cable feed-throughs and recesses in the mounting rails — stated in the fourth bullet, which adds two cable ties to the delivery
    Lock type
Not published on the listing, and no lock of any kind is named. It is the only cabinet on this shelf whose door is never described as lockable
    Amazon reference
B0D3LYFT23 (same reference on 5 Amazon marketplaces)
