Privacy

There is almost nothing to declare on this page, and that is precisely its content.

Who is responsible

Responsible for the processing: Jean-Benoit Buisson, sole trader, 47 rue Vivienne, 75002 Paris, France. Email: [email protected]

Legal basis

Your IP address and your approximate country are processed as each page loads, and the basis for that is our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: a page cannot reach you at all without an IP address, and without the country we cannot point a "Check price" button at the Amazon store that actually sells the switch or the drive you are reading about. No interest beyond those two is pursued.

Who serves these pages, and what travels outside Europe

Hosting sits with Railway Corporation (548 Market Street, PMB 68956, San Francisco, CA 94104, United States); delivery sits with Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States). Both are established in the United States, so each page you open involves a transfer to that country. We hold no access logs ourselves and analyse none; where either provider keeps logs for technical reasons, its own privacy policy applies to them.

What we collect

Nothing that directly identifies you: no advertising cookie, no account to create, no comment field, no newsletter.

Site analytics. Only if you accept in the banner, this site uses Google Analytics 4, from Google, to count visits, page views and clicks to Amazon. Cookies (_ga, _ga_*) are then set for up to 13 months, and Google receives a technical identifier, the page viewed and information about your device; your IP address is not stored. This data is kept for 14 months and may be transferred to the United States under the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). Without your consent, no Google script loads. Your choice is kept for 6 months in your browser, and you can change it at any time with the “Manage cookies” link at the foot of the page.

What the server is sent

Two things are generated per request rather than served as finished files: the affiliate redirect and the live price lookup. Each reads your approximate country — a header from the CDN, or else the language your browser announces — so that a button lands on the right Amazon store in the right currency. The country serves to build the response and is stored nowhere.

Every web server needs an IP address to send an answer back, and this one needs it too. The address never enters a database, never contributes to a profile, and never leaves for anybody else.

What happens as soon as you head to Amazon

A "Check price" button takes you off this site, and from that point Amazon's own privacy policy is the one that applies. Amazon sets a cookie so that a resulting purchase is credited to us. Who you are, which router or enclosure you ordered and what you paid for it never reach us — only a count of orders, in aggregate, weeks afterwards.

Third parties

The fonts all come from this site's own domain, so your browser requests nothing elsewhere. A live price is read by the server from a price-history service rather than by your browser, and that is precisely why the service never sees you.

Your rights

Your IP address is personal data, even though we record it in no database of ours. You therefore hold the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection set out in Articles 15 to 21 of the GDPR. In practice we keep no identifier that would let us trace your requests: under Article 11 of the GDPR we are not required to collect additional information for the sole purpose of identifying you. Write to us if you believe we hold something about you, and we will look into it.

In every case the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority remains open (Article 77 GDPR). The publisher being established in France, that authority is the CNIL — Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés, 3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, France. A reader living in another member state may equally go to the authority of their own country.
