The best patch panels for 2026

A patch panel is where fixed cable runs stop and patch leads begin, and it is bought on four decisions. The first is port count, normally 12, 16 or 24 across a 19-inch width, with the height quoted in rack units: a 24-port panel in 1U packs the sockets tightly, while a 2U version leaves room for fingers. The second is termination. A punch-down panel takes the solid conductors of a fixed run into insulation-displacement contacts using a tool, following the TIA-568A or TIA-568B colour order — either works so long as both ends of the link agree. A keystone panel is an empty frame into which modules clip, which lets one panel mix categories, fibre couplers and blanks. A third kind terminates by plug at the rear and suits a cabinet that will be rearranged. The third decision is the category the panel itself is specified to, because a Cat 6a run terminated into a Cat 5e panel is a Cat 5e link, and the panel publishes its own rating for exactly this reason. The fourth is shielding, which has to be continuous: screened cable into an unscreened panel loses the screen, and a screened panel needs a path to earth to be worth fitting. Then look at the rear — a cable management bar, labelling strips, and whether the panel arrives with its fixing screws and cage nuts. We compare port count, rack units, termination method, category rating, shielded or unshielded, rear management bar, labelling provision and fixings supplied.

The ones worth keeping in the drawer

  1. BIGtec small metal four-port Cat 6a patch panel with shielded RJ45 sockets

BIGtec four-port Cat 6a mini panel, IDC strips for 22–26 AWG, wall, desk or DIN rail

The panel for a cupboard that has no rack in it: four shielded Cat 6a ports in a small metal box that screws to a wall, a desk edge or a length of trunking, with a DIN rail adapter as a fourth option.

    Port count
Four — stated in the title and in the second bullet, which describes four shielded RJ45 sockets. It is the smallest panel on this shelf by a factor of three
    Rack units
Not published on the listing, and there is nothing to publish: this is not a rack panel. The fourth bullet names wall, desk, cable trunking and DIN rail mounting instead, the last of them needing an adapter, and says screw holes are provided
    Termination method
Insulation-displacement strips — the third bullet names four IDC strips for round installation cable of 22 to 26 AWG. The panel is terminated from the back with a punch-down tool, not populated with modules
    Category rating
Cat 6a — stated in the title and in the first bullet, with the second citing ISO/IEC 11801 for the sockets and listing compatibility with Cat 5, Cat 6, Cat 6a, Cat 7 and Cat 8 cable. No frequency figure appears anywhere
    Shielded or unshielded
Shielded — stated in the second bullet, which describes the four sockets as screened, with the first naming a metal housing. No earthing point is named
    Rear management bar
Not published on the listing — no cable management bar is named. On a box this size the cable arrives directly at the IDC strips, and the fourth bullet describes screw holes rather than any strain relief arrangement
    Labelling provision
Not published on the listing — no labelling strip, no window and no marker field is named. Four ports is few enough to remember and there is nothing on the page to write on
    Fixings supplied
Supplied — the fifth bullet lists the delivery as the four-port mini panel, an instruction sheet and fixing material. The DIN rail adapter named in the fourth bullet is not in that list
    Amazon reference
B0G5GXGTSC (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4051687063358
    • Four mounting options, of which three need no rack at all
    • Fixing material and an instruction sheet are both listed in the delivery
    • The DIN rail option needs an adapter that is not in the delivery list

Best for: A four-room house where the cable arrives in a meter cupboard and there is no rack to put anything in.

  2. DIGITUS 10-inch twelve-port shielded Cat 6A patch panel in a black metal housing

    DIGITUS 10-inch 1U twelve-port Cat 6A shielded panel, 500 MHz, PoE+ rated

The only 10-inch panel in this hub, and the only listing anywhere on this shelf that publishes mating cycles, pull load, dielectric strength, insulation resistance and contact resistance.

    Port count
Twelve — stated in the title and in the second bullet, which describes the housing and the IDC strips of a 12-port panel
    Rack units
1U — stated in the title. The first bullet gives the width as the 10-inch standard for rack mounting in a matching network cabinet, which is the narrower of the two rack conventions and the only one of its kind on this shelf
    Termination method
Insulation-displacement strips — named in the second bullet for mounting fixed installation cable, and detailed in the fourth, which says patching follows EIA/TIA 568 A and B with the strips colour-coded accordingly and accepts network cable of AWG 22 to 26 in both solid and stranded conductors
    Category rating
Cat 6A, Class EA — stated in the title and in the first bullet. The third gives 500 MHz and 10GBASE-T, names PoE+ to IEEE 802.3at, and adds backward compatibility with Cat 5e and Cat 6 cable and with PoE to IEEE 802.3af
    Shielded or unshielded
Shielded — stated in the title, and the second bullet describes a closed metal housing with a central earthing point providing the screening of both the ports and the IDC strips
    Rear management bar
Not published on the listing — no cable management bar is named at the rear. The second bullet describes the housing and the strips and stops there
    Labelling provision
Not published on the listing — no labelling strip or marker field is named. The colour coding described in the fourth bullet is on the IDC strips and states a wiring order, which is a different thing from labelling a port
    Fixings supplied
Not published on the listing — no screws, no cage nuts and no earthing lead are listed. The earthing point is named in the second bullet without saying what connects to it
    Amazon reference
B07T63CTDM (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4016032454861
    • Publishes five electrical figures, which no other panel on this shelf attempts
    • Names PoE+ by its standard number rather than saying the panel supports power
    • A 10-inch panel does not fit a 19-inch cabinet, and the title is the only place that says so

Best for: A small 10-inch wall cabinet in a flat or a home office, where twelve ports is the whole installation and the panel has to be screened end to end.

  3. HB-DIGITAL black twelve-port keystone patch panel populated with Cat 6a RJ45 modules

HB-DIGITAL twelve-port 1U keystone panel supplied with twelve Cat 6a modules, GHMT certified

A keystone frame that arrives populated rather than empty, with twelve 360-degree screened Cat 6a modules in the same box and a case thickness published in millimetres.

    Port count
Twelve — stated in the title and in the fifth bullet, which lists a twelve-port panel and twelve Cat 6a RJ45 keystone modules as the contents of the set
    Rack units
1U — stated in the title. The fifth bullet gives the panel as roughly 220 × 110 × 44 mm, and 44 mm is a rack unit; the 220 mm width matches neither of the two rack conventions the other panels here name, and no mounting width is published anywhere on the page
    Termination method
A keystone frame with clip-in modules — the fourth bullet describes a clip-in installation needing no special knowledge, and the fifth supplies twelve Cat 6a modules with the panel. How the modules themselves terminate the cable is not published on the listing
    Category rating
Cat 6a — stated in the title and in the first bullet, which gives up to 10 Gbit/s and 500 MHz. The second says the panel supports installation cable of category 5e, 6, 6a and 7
    Shielded or unshielded
Fully shielded — stated in the title as STP, with the first bullet describing 360-degree screening on the Cat 6a modules and giving their standard size as 14.5 × 16 mm. No earthing point is named
    Rear management bar
Not published on the listing — no cable management bar is named. The third bullet describes a metal housing of 1.7 mm thickness and stops there
    Labelling provision
Not published on the listing — no labelling strip and no marker field is named anywhere, on a panel that arrives with twelve identical modules already fitted
    Fixings supplied
Not published on the listing — the fifth bullet lists the panel and the twelve modules as the contents of the set, warns in capitals that cable is not included, and names no screws, cage nuts or earthing lead
    Amazon reference
B0BLZL3TH5 (same reference on 5 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4063328043551
    • Arrives populated: twelve modules and the frame in one order, at one price
    • Publishes the case thickness in millimetres, which no other panel here does
    • No mounting width anywhere, and the dimension given matches neither rack convention

Best for: A twelve-port installation being built in one go, by someone who would otherwise be ordering a frame from one place and twelve modules from another.

  4. deleyCON black 24-port Cat 6 shielded patch panel for a 19-inch rack

deleyCON 24-port Cat 6 shielded panel, 19-inch 1U, LSA+ termination, earthing lead supplied

The full-width panel on this shelf, twenty-four screened Cat 6 ports terminated by punch-down, sold with its earthing cable named and its outer dimensions written out to the millimetre.

    Port count
Twenty-four — stated in the title and in the first and second bullets, described as twenty-four screened LAN ports
    Rack units
1U — stated in the second bullet. The fourth names 19-inch rack installation and gives the width as 48.3 cm, and the fifth gives the full outer dimensions as 483 mm wide, 44 mm high and 110 mm long
    Termination method
LSA+ insulation-displacement — named in the second bullet as the connection technique and detailed in the third as an 8-pole IDC contact at the rear for rigid installation cable up to Cat 7, accepting solid conductors of AWG 22 to 26. Stranded conductors are not named
    Category rating
Cat 6 — stated in the title and in the first and second bullets, with a transmission rate given as 1 Gbit and 250 MHz. The first adds compatibility with Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6a and Cat 7 cable standards. It is the lowest category on this shelf
    Shielded or unshielded
Shielded — stated in the title and in the first bullet, which describes twenty-four screened ports. The fourth names a metal housing and an earthing cable providing a secure connection, the only earthing lead named on this shelf
    Rear management bar
Not published on the listing — no cable management bar is named at the rear. The third bullet describes the IDC contacts and the conductor range and stops there
    Labelling provision
Not published on the listing — no labelling strip and no marker field is named. The colour markings for TIA568A and TIA568B described in the first bullet state a wiring order rather than identifying a port
    Fixings supplied
Not published on the listing — no screws and no cage nuts are listed. The earthing cable named in the fourth bullet is the only accessory the page mentions, and it is described as a feature rather than as a contents line
    Amazon reference
B01N5OB4B2 (same reference on 5 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4250580128724
    • Every outer dimension is printed, so it can be measured against a cabinet before ordering
    • An earthing cable is named, which no other panel on this shelf mentions
    • Cat 6 with 250 MHz, the lowest rating on this shelf, at the same price as a Cat 6A panel beside it

Best for: A 19-inch cabinet where two dozen fixed runs come home to one place, and where the installation is gigabit rather than ten-gigabit.

  5. LogiLink PrimeLine black 24-port Cat 6A shielded patch panel for a 19-inch rack

    Logilink 24-port Cat 6A 500 MHz shielded panel, 19-inch 1U, 1.8 kg

The highest-rated 24-port panel on this shelf, cited against two standards by number and weighed to the tenth of a kilogram, and the only one that never says whether it is punched down or populated with modules.

    Port count
Twenty-four — stated in the title and in the third bullet, which describes twenty-four shielded RJ45 sockets
    Rack units
1U — stated in the second bullet, together with suitability for 19-inch cabinet installation. The fifth repeats the single rack unit alongside the housing description
    Termination method
Not published on the listing — no bullet says whether the rear is punched down, terminated by module or connected any other way. The third names the sockets and the two standards they meet; the second names the rack fit; nothing anywhere describes the back of the panel
    Category rating
Cat 6A, Class EA — stated in the title and in the first bullet, with 500 MHz and 10G given alongside. It is the highest rating on this shelf, shared with two other panels
    Shielded or unshielded
Shielded — stated in the title as STP and in the third bullet as twenty-four screened sockets, with the fifth naming a fully screened metal housing of one rack unit in RAL 9005 black. No earthing point and no earthing lead is named
    Rear management bar
Not published on the listing — no cable management bar is named, on a page that never describes the rear of the panel at all
    Labelling provision
Not published on the listing — no labelling strip and no marker field is named anywhere, and unlike the other panels here there is not even a colour-coding scheme mentioned
    Fixings supplied
Not published on the listing — no screws, no cage nuts and no earthing lead are listed. The fourth bullet gives the weight, 1.8 kg, and the fifth the colour
    Amazon reference
B00HQIIHFY (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4052792027174
    • Cat 6A at 500 MHz on twenty-four ports, the highest rating and the highest port count together
    • Cites ISO/IEC 11801 and TIA/EIA 568B.2-1 by number rather than claiming a category alone
    • The termination method is nowhere on the page, which is the first thing a buyer needs to know

Best for: A 19-inch cabinet needing twenty-four ten-gigabit-rated ports, bought by someone who has already asked the seller how the back of it works.
