0.9 to 1.1 millimetres, which is the figure that fits

Two plugs on this shelf publish a conductor diameter in millimetres, and this is one of them. That matters because it is the dimension a cable is measured in when a gauge is not printed on the drum. Everything else here quotes AWG alone, which is fine when the cable quotes AWG too and useless when it does not.

The window is narrow and it is stated with its gauge equivalent beside it: AWG 24 to 27, 0.9 to 1.1 mm over the insulation. Anything fatter does not go in. Anything thinner rattles.

The refusal in capitals

Most listings on this shelf tell you what a plug is for. This one tells you what it is not for, and puts it first, and puts it in capitals: not for Cat 7 or Cat 7A installation cable at AWG23.

That single sentence is worth more than a paragraph of compatibility claims, because it names the exact mistake this shelf produces. A buyer holding a drum of Cat 7 installation cable reads Cat 7 on a plug packet, assumes a match and finds out at the eighth conductor that the wire will not enter the channel. The category matched; the gauge did not. The one that decides is the gauge.

Solid or flexible, both, and stated

The end of the second bullet does the other important job in six words: rigid or flexible conductors. Both constructions are accepted, which is not the norm on this shelf — one plug here takes solid alone — and a plug that takes both is a plug that finishes a made-up lead and a wall run with the same packet.

Combined with the millimetre window, that is an unusually complete compatibility statement for a plug. What is missing is the sheath: no outside diameter appears, and the boot has to pass over whatever that is.

Before ordering

Measure the insulated conductor, not the cable. If the number lands between 0.9 and 1.1 mm you are inside the window, whatever the category on the drum says; if it does not, no amount of matching categories will help. Then check the sheath will pass through the boot, since this packet publishes no outside diameter and the boot is supplied rather than optional.
