Twenty-four ports at 483 millimetres

This is the only panel on this shelf that publishes all three of its outer dimensions, and it is the reason to trust the rest of the page.

The first two are the 19-inch convention written out. The third is the one that gets forgotten: 110 mm is how far the panel projects backwards into the cabinet before any cable is attached, and behind it there has to be room for twenty-four fixed runs to bend. In a wall cabinet of 180 mm or 300 mm internal depth, that arithmetic decides whether the door closes.

Every cabinet on this site publishes a depth of some kind. Very few panels publish the figure to compare it against. This one does.

Cat 6 at 250 megahertz, on a shelf where the neighbours say 500

The rating is the honest weakness here and it is stated plainly in the second bullet: Cat 6, 1 Gbit, 250 MHz.

Two of the four other panels on this shelf publish Cat 6A at 500 MHz, and one of those is cheaper than this. A link takes the rating of its weakest component, so a Cat 6A installation terminated into this panel is a Cat 6 installation.

Whether that matters depends entirely on the plan. A house wired for gigabit is not being held back by anything here. A house being wired now for ten gigabit later is being held back by exactly this part, and the extra cost of not being is small.

The earthing cable, named rather than assumed

The fourth bullet mentions a secure connection thanks to an earthing cable.

That is a small phrase doing a real job. Screened panels are common; screened panels that arrive with the lead to bond them are not, and a screen without a path to earth is decoration. Three of the four other panels on this shelf name an earthing point at most, and one of them names nothing at all.

The phrasing is a feature description rather than a contents list, which is worth a question to the seller before the order rather than an assumption afterwards.

Solid conductors, and only solid

The third bullet accepts solid conductors of AWG 22 to 26 and names no others.

That is the right conductor for fixed cable coming out of a wall, which is what a patch panel is for, so nothing is wrong. It is narrower than the panel beside it, which names solid and stranded in the same line, and it is worth knowing if there is any chance of terminating a length of patch cable into the back of this thing.

Before ordering

Measure 110 mm of panel plus the bend of twenty-four cables against the internal depth of the cabinet, because this listing gives you the figure to do it with. Decide whether the installation is gigabit or ten-gigabit, since that is what the 250 MHz decides. And add cage nuts and screws — none are listed, and the earthing cable is the only accessory the page names.
