It does not touch the connection arriving at the building, which is set by the line and the provider. What a newer generation can improve is the last few metres between the router and a device that also speaks it.
Two different links are being confused: the one arriving at the building and the one crossing the living room.
The line is not a wireless matter
The connection into the building is delivered by whatever technology serves the address and at whatever rate the contract names. It arrives at a socket, and the router presents it to the house. Nothing on the radio side of the router changes what came in.
If pages load slowly on every device, wired ones included, the restriction is on the line or beyond it, and a new router of any generation is not the purchase.
What the newer generation actually adds
Wi-Fi 7 is the certification name for equipment built to IEEE 802.11be, and three additions account for most of what is claimed on packaging.
Wider channels. The amendment allows channels up to 320 MHz, twice the widest before it. That much contiguous spectrum exists in practice only in the 6 GHz band, and how much of that band is open is a national regulatory matter.
Denser modulation. More bits carried in each symbol, which needs a correspondingly cleaner signal. It is used close to the access point and is the first thing a link gives up as conditions worsen.
Multi-link operation. A client and an access point that both support it hold links on more than one band at the same time and move traffic across them. This is the structural change, and it needs both ends.
Where an upgrade is felt, and where it is not
Felt: moving a large file between two devices in the house over the air; a crowded flat where many devices share the same channels, since the scheduling in recent generations is about sharing airtime rather than about raw speed; a household that has just added a line above a gigabit and whose router’s ports are all gigabit.
Not felt: a line at or below a gigabit that was already saturating; a house whose problem is one room behind a stubborn wall, which is a placement problem; a set of devices that are all several generations older than the router.
The port speeds deserve reading first
A unit built to a recent amendment commonly carries Ethernet ports rated above a gigabit, and that is the specification worth checking before the class figure, because a port speed is a fact and a class figure is an addition. A router quoting an enormous wireless total behind four gigabit sockets has a wired ceiling that no wireless specification lifts.
What replacing a router does reliably improve
Firmware that is still receiving updates. Radios that handle a crowded room more politely than a unit from two generations ago. Ports that are not the bottleneck. Management that is comprehensible.
Those are good reasons. A faster connection from the provider is not among them, and no wireless generation has ever been able to offer it.
The manufacturer’s own documentation comes first, and this page is not a substitute for it. Every rate, capacity, class figure, endurance rating, port speed and power figure on this page is reported from the manufacturer's own documentation, with its unit written as published, and named as such — none of it is measured here. A stated capacity is reported as the maker counts it, and is never restated in another unit, because the two are not the same figure. And the statement repeated rather than assumed: a class figure such as AX3000 or BE9300 is the arithmetic sum of the theoretical peak rates of separate radios, a quantity the standard defines rather than one a link produces. No single connection reaches it, and adding the bands together is exactly what makes it large. What a given link carries is settled by the slowest part of the chain, which no comparison page can know.
The questions that come up before an order
Do my phone and laptop need to support Wi-Fi 7 as well?
For anything the amendment adds, yes. An older client joins the network as the generation it speaks, at the rates that generation defines, and none of the newer mechanisms operate on that link. An access point cannot add a radio to a device that does not have one.
Will a 320 MHz channel be available where I live?
That depends on how much of the 6 GHz band the national regulator has opened, and it varies. A channel that wide has to be assembled from contiguous spectrum, so where less of the band is available the widest channel a unit can form is narrower — the same box, different room to work in.
