Two cable categories, one sentence apart

The second bullet asks for two different things in a row. Sentence one: a copper module for CAT6A, CAT7 and CAT8 cable. Sentence two: supports the ten-gigabit rate for the use of Cat 5e cable or better.

Those are not the same requirement. The first is a narrow window at the top of the category range; the second opens the window several categories wider. Nothing between them explains the change — no shortened distance for the lesser cable, no note, no qualifier.

This page reports both because both are published. What it will not do is choose the sentence that reads better and present it as the specification. The one number that might have reconciled them, a reduced reach on lower-category cable, is not on the page either: the title says up to 30 m and says it once.

The exclusions in the fourth bullet

Now the part that is genuinely good, and it is the only one of its kind in this hub.

The fourth bullet names Cisco SFP-10G-T-S and then, in the same breath, rules out the Cisco Nexus series and the Cisco Meraki series. A seller who writes that has tried it and found where it stops.

Compare that with the alternative style, which is a list of brand names and a hope. Naming an exclusion costs a seller sales and buys a buyer certainty, and there are six other listings on this shelf that never do it.

No operating temperature on a copper SFP+

Copper ten-gigabit modules work hard. The circuitry that drives 10GBASE-T down a twisted pair sits inside a sealed metal cage with a switch chassis around it, and it turns electricity into heat while it does so.

This page publishes no operating temperature, no ambient recommendation and no power figure. The other copper module on this shelf publishes both a draw and an ambient limit, which is the comparison that makes the silence here visible rather than merely unremarkable.

Before ordering

Put the cable question to the seller in writing, because the page asks for two different categories and the answer decides whether the run in your wall qualifies. Check your switch against the fourth bullet, which is unusually specific about where it fails. And if the cage sits in a closed cabinet, plan for a module whose thermal behaviour is nowhere described.
