FLYPROFiber 1 m duplex OM4 LC to LC, 50/125 µm, UPC polish, A/B labelled clips

The only multimode lead here with a full reach table behind it — four rates, four distances, all at 850 nm — and the only one on this shelf whose duplex clip is marked A and B so a cabinet can be read at patching time.

FLYPROFiber aqua duplex OM4 fibre patch cable with LC connectors and A and B labelled clips

Fibre type
Multimode, 50/125 µm — stated in the title and in the third bullet, which calls the fibre insensitive to bending, easy to strip and easy to splice
Fibre grade
OM4 — stated in the title and in the first bullet, with a bandwidth of 2000 MHz·km at 850 nm given in the second. The first bullet calls OM4 the preferred fibre specification for 40G and 100G applications
Connector types at each end
LC at both ends — stated in the title and in the first bullet, which names 40G BIDI SR, 10G SR, QSFP+ and SFP+ transceivers as what it is meant to join
Simplex or duplex
Duplex — stated in the title as 40 GB/100 GB Duplex and in the first bullet as an LC-LC duplex patch cable
Polarity arrangement
Embossed A and B position labels on the duplex clip and on the marking ring — stated in the fourth bullet, whose stated purpose is quick identification of Tx and Rx during installation, testing and fault finding. Whether the pair is supplied crossed is not published on the listing; the same bullet names adjustable connector clips, which is how a pair is rearranged by hand
Length
1 m — stated in the title, which also gives the range the lead is sold in, from 0.2 m to 100 m
Jacket rating
LSZH — stated in the title and in the fourth bullet, which calls the jacket an environmentally friendly LSZH sheath
Polish type
UPC — stated in the fourth bullet as a high-grade UPC polish on zirconia ceramic ferrules made in Japan. The third bullet quotes an insertion loss of 0.3 dB or less and a return loss of 30 dB or better
Armouring
Not published on the listing — no armour is named. The third bullet gives a minimum bend radius of 7.5 mm instead, and offers the lead for cabinets requiring twenty or more bends and for high-density installations in very small spaces

  • Four ethernet distances at four rates, all quoted at 850 nm, the fullest reach table on this shelf
  • A and B labels embossed on the clip and the marking ring, so Tx and Rx can be read by eye
  • The four distances belong to the fibre, and the lead in the bag is 1 m long

Best for: A short OM4 hop between two SFP+ cages in the same cabinet, where the A and B labels earn their keep every time the patching changes.

On the listing

A 1 m duplex OM4 multimode patch cable, 50/125 µm, LC to LC, offered in lengths from 0.2 m to 100 m; a stated design for high-density applications in gigabit ethernet, fibre channel, local networks, data centres and wide area networks, and for joining 40G BIDI SR, 10G SR, QSFP+ and SFP+ transceivers; maximum ethernet distances of 550 m at one gigabit, 300 m at ten, 300 m at forty and 200 m at a hundred, all at 850 nm, with a bandwidth of 2000 MHz·km at 850 nm; a minimum bend radius of 7.5 mm on a bend-insensitive fibre, with an insertion loss of 0.3 dB or less and a return loss of 30 dB or better; an LSZH jacket, adjustable connector clips, embossed A and B position labels on the duplex clip and marking ring, a UPC polish and zirconia ceramic ferrules made in Japan.

OM4 at 850 nanometres, and 2000 megahertz-kilometres

The grade is OM4 and the second bullet backs it with the figure the grade is defined by: 2000 MHz·km at 850 nm.

That unit is worth a sentence because it is not a speed. It multiplies a bandwidth by a distance, which is another way of saying that the further the light travels, the less bandwidth survives the journey. A short run keeps almost all of it. A long one spends it.

This is the only lead on this shelf that publishes such a figure, and it is the reason the reach table underneath it can exist at all.

Four ethernet distances on a 1 m lead

550 m, 300 m, 300 m, 200 m, at one, ten, forty and a hundred gigabit.

None of them apply to the object being sold, which is a metre long. They apply to the fibre, and that is exactly why they are useful: they say which rates this grade of glass is specified to carry, which is the question when the SFP+ cages at both ends are ten-gigabit or the QSFP+ cages are forty.

A buyer choosing between OM3 and OM4 for a cabinet full of short leads is choosing on those four lines and nothing else. No other multimode listing here prints them.

The A and B labels on the clip

The fourth bullet describes something small and unusually practical: the position labels are embossed into the duplex clip and into the marking ring.

A duplex link sends on one strand and listens on the other, so the pair has to arrive the right way round. In a cabinet, aqua leads are indistinguishable, and the difference between a link that comes up and one that does not is which fibre went into which side of the transceiver. Moulded letters solve that in a second.

The clips are also stated to be adjustable, which is the other half of the same idea — when the pair is the wrong way round, it can be swapped without a new lead.

What the page still does not say is whether the pair leaves the factory crossed or straight, and that is the one line a duplex listing most needs.

Before ordering

Check that the fibre at both ends is multimode before anything else, because five of the seven leads on this shelf are single-mode and the two families do not interchange. Confirm the transceivers want a duplex pair. Then look at the polish: this lead is UPC, and a UPC face cannot be mated to an angled one.

The American Amazon store returned nothing at all, so the buy button there opens a search in that country rather than a page that would not load.
