2000 megahertz, and where it lands in a house

The largest number on this shelf, attached to the one thing a home network cannot use. Cat 8 is specified across a bandwidth and a channel length set by the standard, and 40 Gbps is the class rate that goes with them. A household link runs at whatever its two ports agree on, which for almost every router and machine sold into a home is a gigabit, or two and a half.

That is not an argument against buying it. Headroom is real, and a cord bought once outlives three routers. It is an argument against reading the figure as a promise: nothing about this cable raises the ceiling that the sockets at either end set.

Pure copper, stated twice

The third bullet names a core of 100 per cent bare pure copper; the fourth names four pairs of pure thick copper wires. Two of the seven listings on this shelf never name a metal at all and one of them names copper-clad aluminium, so a repeated claim of pure copper is worth reading as the answer to the question the buying tip for this hub asks.

The construction is a different matter and it is missing. Thick is a description of section, not of whether each conductor is one wire or seven, and a flat cord that is going to be lifted and re-routed is exactly where the answer would matter.

The plugs, and a figure on the plating

Two things are said about the ends and both are specific. The plugs are shielded and hook-free, which is the snagless design that keeps a retaining tab from catching as a bundle is pulled. And the gold is quoted at 50 microns, the only plating thickness on this shelf. Everywhere else on this page the word gold arrives on its own; here it arrives with a measurement, which is the difference between a claim and a specification.
