Aluminium, for heat
The fifth bullet gives the material and then gives the reason. A 2.5-gigabit adapter works harder than a gigabit one and a metal shell moves that warmth across its whole surface. The matching colour is a second thought; the heat is the first, and it is stated as such.
The host link nobody rates

Does an aluminium shell do anything on an adapter this small?
It spreads heat, which a 2.5-gigabit adapter produces more of than a gigabit one, and it does so across the whole body rather than at one point. The fifth bullet gives that as the reason. The other effect is mechanical: metal survives a bag better than a thin plastic shell.
How can a bullet be headed plug and play and then ask for a driver?
