Eight lights and a second box
A light for each conductor, on a remote unit. Both halves matter. The eight lights say which conductor is at fault rather than that one is; the second box means the far end of a run that is already in the wall can answer for itself, with one person walking between the two ends instead of two people shouting.
Cat 8 on the label, continuity in the hand
The compatibility line runs from Cat 5 to Cat 8. What is being tested through those connectors is continuity and order, not performance. A lead of any grade can be checked for eight conductors arriving in the right sequence, and no lead of any grade is being measured against the limits of its category here.

The questions that come up before an order
What does a light per conductor add over a single pass light?
It names the fault. A unit that shows one light for the whole lead says something is wrong; eight lights say which conductor is missing or which two have swapped places, and that is the difference between recrimping blind and recrimping one end. This tester gives the eight, which is the ordinary arrangement at this level.
Does Cat 8 on the compatibility line mean this tester checks a Cat 8 installation?
No. The line describes which leads fit the sockets and get their conductors checked. Confirming that a run performs to the limits of a category is a measurement against a standard, made by a different instrument, and nothing on this page claims it.
