Four ports, and no rack anywhere on the page

Every other panel on this shelf begins by telling you how wide it is and how many rack units it consumes. This one never mentions a rack.

That is not an omission. It is the product. The fourth bullet lists wall, desk, cable trunking and DIN rail, and the fifth ships fixing material to make any of those happen.

The situation it fits is common and badly served: four rooms wired back to a meter cupboard, a router on a shelf, and no cabinet because a cabinet for four ports would cost more than the cable. A small metal box on the wall does the job a 24-port panel would do at ten times the size.

The IDC strips and their conductor window

Termination here is punch-down. Four insulation-displacement strips at the back, taking round installation cable of 22 to 26 AWG per the third bullet.

That is the arrangement for fixed cable arriving from the walls, and it wants a punch-down tool, which is not in the box. What the bullet does not say is whether the strips accept stranded conductors as well as solid ones — a distinction that decides whether a patch lead could be terminated into the same strip, and one that two of the five panels on this shelf spell out.

The DIN rail adapter that is not in the box

The fourth bullet offers DIN rail mounting and adds, in brackets, that an adapter is necessary.

The fifth bullet then lists what arrives: the panel, the instructions, the fixing material. No adapter.

It is not hidden — the word is right there in the bracket — but the two bullets are three lines apart and one of them is a list of mounting options that reads as four equal choices. Three of them are ready to use out of the box and one is a separate purchase.

Before ordering

Decide where it is going first, because three of the four mounting options need only the screws supplied and the fourth needs a part that is not. Have a punch-down tool ready, since the strips are IDC and no tool is listed. And if the run might grow past four rooms, look at the 12-port and 24-port panels on this shelf instead — this one does not extend.
