The buffer named, and what it does to a long copy
The second bullet names a single-level cell write buffer. Part of the flash is used one bit per cell, which accepts data quickly, and it empties into the slower three-bit region afterwards. That is the mechanism behind the opening burst of any large transfer, and naming it is more informative than the rate above it. The questions that come up before an order
What does a shock rating with a duration mean?
It names the force the drive is specified to survive and how long that force lasts. A brief, very high peak and a longer, gentler one are different events, and a figure without a duration cannot be compared with another figure. This page gives both halves, which is the useful form. It describes a specification, not a promise about a particular fall.
Why does a drive with no moving parts still quote a written total?
Because flash memory wears with writing rather than with movement. Each cell accepts a finite number of write and erase cycles before it becomes unreliable, and the total in terabytes is how a maker states the budget for the whole drive. It has nothing to do with shock, noise or heat, which is why those claims sit in different bullets on this page.
