Four machines, two screens
Nothing else here covers as much desk. The extending arrangement gives two different pictures, the mirroring one gives the same picture twice, and both are stated rather than left to be discovered. On a two-screen desk this is the whole reason to buy a switch rather than replug leads.
Switched over a wire, or over a serial line
Buttons, a remote, and RS232 at 115200 baud. The third is the unusual one, and it is what puts this unit in a meeting room or on a control desk where the switching is done by a system rather than by a hand.

What is RS232 switching for on a KVM?
It lets a control system change machines over a serial line instead of a person pressing a button. In a meeting room or a control desk that means the switch can be driven from the same panel as everything else. This listing gives the baud rate as 115200, which is the figure a control system needs to be told.
What does EDID simulation hold?
The identity of the screen, including its native resolution and refresh rate, so that each computer continues to believe a display is attached when the switch is pointed elsewhere. That is what stops windows being rearranged on every change of machine, and this page states it as the reason for the feature.
